HPV Vaccine
What is HPV?
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a very common virus. Most people will be infected at some point in their lives. There are over 100 types of HPV — some cause genital warts, while others are linked to cervical, anal, throat, and other cancers.
💉 What Does the HPV Vaccine Do?
The HPV vaccine protects against the most harmful types of HPV, including:
-
Types 16 and 18 – cause around 70–80% of cervical cancers
-
Types 6 and 11 – cause around 90% of genital warts
At ABC Health Clinic, we use Gardasil 9, which protects against 9 strains of HPV.
🧬 Who Should Get It?
-
Boys and girls aged 9–14 (most effective if given before sexual activity begins)
-
People aged 15–25 (still highly beneficial)
-
Adults up to age 45 (based on individual risk and discussion with a healthcare provider)
🗓️ How Many Doses Are Needed?
-
Ages 9–14: 2 doses (6–12 months apart)
-
